I’m excited to share my mission to improve choices for disabled individuals in the hospitality sector. Drawing from my extensive personal and professional experience, I support hospitality businesses on their inclusion journey.
This is not only the right thing to do but makes business sense. Currently according to the Purple Pound, £15.7 billion is lost to the sector because of lack of awareness of the different barriers.
Disabled people are not a homogeneous group and our needs are diverse. Our voices matter and when businesses listen, they are starting their journey of inclusive practices.
Why Inclusion Matters
Inclusion is a journey, and it requires the involvement of many voices. I am honest with all who I work with about this necessity. My background in care, compliance, and advocacy ensures that the voices of disabled people are heard, respected, and acted upon.
I fully appreciate the significance of choices because this is so often denied for disabled people because of incorrect assumptions made by others.
Too often disabled people are not considered or given choices because of the lack of diversity in the workplace. Innovation and creativity is much more prevalent in a diverse work place leading to better productivity and profits. Research backs this statement from London School of Economics to Harvard Business school.
My Expertise
I bring my expertise from working in different sectors and with disabled people. I also share my personal experiences as a deaf person being a guest in the hospitality sector. My focus is on ensuring people have choices and that their voices are central to decision making processes.
Invitation- to disabled people
Recently, I had a conversation with Linda, who has an autistic son. Linda shared with me that some of my suggestions for the sector were exactly what she needed for planning trips to restaurants and hotels. But there will be things I have missed too.
Which brings me to the exciting part – I am inviting disabled people, who share this vision to join me.
DM me to find out how to get involved. Together, we can visit the hotels and restaurants I support to gain a holistic understanding of what’s missing. This collaborative effort will help us identify and remove barriers to create truly inclusive spaces.
Let’s make a difference.
Join me in this important journey to create inclusive practices in the hospitality sector.
Perhaps I should add – we support behind the scenes to push for changes that improves services for disabled people. In other words any bad experiences from services we work with will not be shared publicly because this usually sets people on the defensive. Though I may share lessons from this without names.
Therefore, anyone who joins me, must respect this principle. Working with our clients in a constructive way creates the biggest change. We will share successes because this will encourage others to start their journey of inclusion.
For hospitality if you need a financial incentive to get started on your inclusion journey, consider the investment in our services as a potential to tap into the £15.7 billion lost revenue. (figures as calculated by Purple) Finally, not least inclusion is the right thing to do.
